To increase the efficiency and reliability of individual laptop components, temperature peaks during usage have to be avoided. Position and speed of the fan and the design of the ventilation grille have significant influence in this respect.
With OPTIMUS Modification and CFD-Analysis of the parametrised model of the cooling channel were automated. Modern experimental designs (Design Of Experiments) enabled the efficient investigation of the design space. Based on the results a mathematical substitute model was created. Evalution of this model replaced computationally extensive CFD analyses and formed thus the basis for the subsequent optimization.
Due to the redesign of the ventilation slots in the optimized design the air flow through the laptop was increased by 30%. At the same time the required motor torque was reduced by 5%. Thus with lower power consumption a uniform temperature distribution could be achieved. This led to a significant increase in the lifetime of the electronic components.
